I. INTRODUCTION - THE MEANING OF THE BAPTISM BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
- Is an act of being immersed and filled with The Holy Spirit. Acts 1:4, 2:4.
- It is different from being born again. John 20:22; Acts 2:4, 8:12, 1:4.
- It is God's providence of Power. Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8; Luke 1:35.
- It is a Promise for all who beleieve. Acts 2:4, 39.
- It is scriptural commanded. Ephesians 5:18, Acts 1:4-5.
- It was a source of spiritual strength:
- In the ministry of Jesus Christ. Acts 10:38; Luke 4:1.
- In service of the early Church. Acts 1:8, 2:4, 4:31, 33.
A. TERMS FOR BEING BAPTISED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.
- Must be born again. John 14:17; 3:5-7.
- Must desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Mt 5:6; Rm 15:16; 1Cor 6:11, 7:37.
- Must submit to God. Acts 5:32.
- Approach boldly at the throne of grace. Hebr 4:16.
- Pray to God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. Luke 11:10, 13.
- Praise God by faith. Mk 11:24; Luke 24:53
- Speaking in tongues. Acts 2:3, 10:45-47, 19:1-6.
- These signs shall acompany you as the Spirit dwells in you:
- Being able to do the works of Jesus. John 14:16-18, 16:14.
- Feeling the presence of God. John 14:16-18.
- To be conscious against sin. John 16:7-11.
- To acquire capacity to be witness for Gospel. Acts 1:8.
- Feel confident. Acts 2:14-41.
- Acquire love for God and for people. Rm 5:5.
- Acquire ability and desire to pray and intercede for others. Rm 8:26-27.
- Manifestations of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. 1Kor 12:1-11.
- APETITE: Have a desire to be babtized by the Holy Spirit.
- FAITH: Believe that you are going to receive the Holy Spirit now. Hebr 11:16; Mark 11:24.
- PRAISE: The Lord shows His presence during the moments of praising Him. Acts 4:31.
- YIELD BEFORE GOD: Submit yourself before the Lord in everything i.e mentally, physically and spiritually. Rm 6:13, 12:1.
