PNEUMATOLOGY

I. MEANING OF PNEUMATOLOGY:
  • It is the study of the person and the work of the Holy spirit.
  • Is the theological discipline that focuses only on the Holy spirit.
  • This discipline is allover the Bible.
II. PROMISES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
* Jn 14;16-18
"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor(comforter, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby) that he may remain with you forever"(Amp).

  • The word Remain in Greek is Meno, in John's gospel occurs 41 times and in his epistles occurs 26 times . 67 Times in all.
  • The word “Meno” means; abide, dwell, remain, continue, endure, tarry, be present and abide still.

 III. HIS WORKS TO THE CHURCH
A. Regeneration
  • Freligh, defines regeneration as that supernatural and immediate change fashioned by the Holy Spirit in the nature of the person who receives the Lord Jesus Christ.
 NB:The form of the church in any age is prescribed by the Holy Spirit.
  •  It is not an evolutionary change, but a revolutionary one (pp 55).
  •  It is the act which is done by God to a believer and it takes place within the nature of a man himself.
  • The word regeneration occurs twice in the bible,  Mathew: 19:28, and Titus 3:5. 
  • According to these scriptures regeneration is regarded as being reborn.
> This word Regeneration,in Greek is Palingenesias.
> In relation to the nature of man, it includes the various expressions used for eternal life which are;
  • New birth, (Jn 3:3)
  • Spiritual resurrection (Eph 2:6),
  • New mind (1 Cor 2:16): We do not reason about the word of God we obey it. 
  • Sons of God (Jn 1:12): A Christian with power and the desire to accomplish something can do anything." 
  • Made alive (Rom 8:11) 
  • Translation into the kingdom (2 Pet 2:9)
